Using sleeves
Restoration of tooth crown when it is missing is performed with the help of sleeve tooth, a part of which is metal or glass fiber sleeve that enters the tooth root channel.
Glass fiber sleeves are called the sleeves of the third generation. They suit more the restoration of interior teeth because they are transparent.
For a long time it was quite customary to use cast sleeves and gum inlays to increase the solidity of teeth that had undergone endodontic treatment and for restoration of intensely fractured teeth.
If tooth crown is missing but the tooth root fulfilling the supporting function corresponds to particular demands then sleeves prosthetics can be done. The appearance of composite materials gave a new impulse to sleeve method of teeth restoration.
Glass fiber and anchor sleeves can be used almost in any tooth without pulp. Depending on the intensity of crown fracture either direct restoration or indirect restoration can be performed. The last is done with the help of dental laboratory that is at our clinic.
Sleeves have the following functions:
- strengthening the preserved tooth part;
- filling in the lost volume in the crown tooth part;
- making the base for restoration construction to restoration firm, retentive and solid;
- distributing the chewing forces proportionally.
