Removable plate prostheses

Removable plate prostheses

Removable prostheses are aimed to restore chewing function and improve aesthetics. They consist of artificial teeth which are chosen individually for each patient according to the shape and colour of basis (artificial gum). These prostheses are fixed to natural teeth (if there are any) with the help of attachments.

If natural teeth are missing, prostheses are fixed due to their suction ability to soft tissues of upper or lower jaws. Surely, the prostheses fixation is not very reliable in this case but it can be made more reliable if to use implants as the basis. Sometimes implants are joined in one fixation system with special joist attachments. The system also serves as removable denture basis.

To get used to removable dentures you need time. The first thing you are to learn to do is to speak with the prosthesis in your mouth. You are to rinse your mouth all the time and make hot bathes with the prostheses in it. Prostheses should not be put into the glass with boiling water. You will need more hot rinsing. It helps mucous tunic to get used to the prostheses and get through the adaptation period easier.

Removable plate prostheses

Any removable prosthesis may rub gum sore. If the prosthesis rubs you sore, you should not bear it and let bloody sores appear. You may take off the prosthesis and put it into a glass with water. But before visiting your dentist for correction you are to put on the prosthesis and wear it for three hours and only after that you may come to the dentist. It should be done so that your dentist could see a clear print on mucous tunic and grind only that spot in the prosthesis that rubs you sore. It is useless to bring the prosthesis in your pocket and show what rubs you. In removable dentures every centimeter even millimeter of supporting surface is of vital importance. As a rule, prosthesis correction lasts for 5 – 10 minutes. Up to ten corrections are considered normal, but usually one or two is enough.

At our clinic dentists will always tell you how you should take care of your removable prostheses.
